Automated quality control and process control systems enable manufacturers to collect statistical process control (SPC) and quality measurement data at the wafer and/or cell level across the line, and then integrate it all into a Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The technology enables greater transparency, which
makes it possible to identify costly process faults or weaknesses, and optimize uptime of equipment and tools. "The data is then used to evaluate individual suppliers, tools, process-set points, to optimize performance and reduce costs on individual lines, factories, and pass on to the customer,” says David Genova, Rudolph Technologies, Head of Solar, in an interview with pv magazine.
